Hearing is one thing, doing is what matters

But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

James 1:25

Any person, at any time, receiving instruction regarding anything that does not act upon and do what is instructed faces potential failure. Whatever it was we were given instructions about might not work, or only work for a while, or partially work due to our neglect. We might haphazardly gloss over the instructions. Only read bits and pieces thinking we know better and don’t need to read or know what the instructions say. Or, worse yet we might turn to someone who we think knows more and better than the instructions given. Conversely, we might know the instructions backwards and forwards but if we do not apply them all is for naught. It is only when we hear, or read instruction, take it to mind and heart and then implement it — DO IT — wherein we are assured success.

This is NOT TO BE MISTAKEN OR CONFUSED with the false teaching and practice that by our works, of our doing are we saved. We are saved by God’s grace, God’s mercy, God’s forgiveness and God’s salvation given as a gift to us through His love for us, and by the shed blood, death and resurrection unto eternal life of His Son, Jesus Christ.

Let none of us imagine we can merely pick up a Bible and read it as a worldly book, or attend a church and that is sufficient enough. We must DO what we read and hear contained in the COMPLETE INERRANT WORD OF GOD. We must live our lives as a light unto the world, and as the salt of the earth, with the Spirit of God within us shining through so those seeing us recognize not us, but God in us and give God all the glory and honor.

We must mortify sin and not permit the world to taint us, to blemish us.

We must discern wisely the onslaught of false teachings and false teachers and abide solely in the truth of God’s inerrant word.

Pure of heart, mind, spirit and body.

Enduring until the end. Continuing therein, after becoming aware of the truth of God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, not forgetting for an instance, not merely hearing, but doing the living word in our daily lives and God Almighty shall bless us all the days of our lives in so doing.
