What a Wonderful Day the Lord Has Made

The 246th year of America

by Ken Pullen

A CROOKED PATH

Upon waking and saying my morning prayer finding the Lord has blessed me with another day, I said to the Lord;

Heavenly Father, Lord Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit, I thank you for this wonderful, fine day You have made and how You hold all things together by Your will. I desire a pure heart, a pure mind, to be kept from sin and displeasing You. May I do all things to glorify You and give You thanks in all things. I ask this in name of Jesus, Lord of my life and my Saviour, Amen.

Then I very slowly begin to make my way around. It takes longer and longer to get the joints, sinew, ligaments, tendons, and muscles in motion and going.

I kiss my wife good morning. She eats breakfast quickly upon waking. Me not so much. I eat a bit after being up a while.

I go outside to fill and put out the bird feeders in the back yard and the front yard.

We make coffee and go sit out on our front porch.

The mottled light flickers through the leaves. Astaire and Rogers have nothing on the breeze, the leaves, the light dancing upon the forest floor of the dense woods that surround our humble abode.

There’s a nice breeze making the leaves and branches dance along with the light. It’s early but one from experience can tell it’s going to be a hot day. A very hot day.

The only sounds are those of the gentle breeze and the wildlife coming to life from their waking.

There are black, gray, and red squirrels chasing each other taking time out to snatch a peanut and run atop one of the large boulders to begin munching.

The birds call, sing, chirp, and squawk. Descending from the trees to the feeders, some to the seed and peanuts cast on the ground.

My wife and I talk quietly, relaxing, enjoying the moments as they are given, blessed by the Lord.

No one can be heard. Other than the fowls of the air and some furry frantic peanut-eating fiends.

Within a few minutes of sitting and talking while sipping on our freshly brewed coffee, the two mom wild turkeys show up with their brood. First the wild turkey mom with her two, and within a minute or so later the other wild turkey mom with her brood of five.

A chipmunk butts its little head into the backside of a squirrel that was hassling the little rodent earlier.

The squirrel jumps not expecting what just happened.

A lot of activity for such peace, calm and quiet.

Then, he appears in the distance, first seen in the middle of the front woods the sun flashing off his reddish-brown fur. A young whitetail buck. Slowly, carefully going from shadow to light setting in a spot where he appeared to be in the spotlight reaching upwards for some tender leaves to eat.

What a wonderful and fine day the Lord has made. Holding all things together by His will. The wonder and beauty of all His Creation before us. Worship the Creator of all things, not the creation. For no man can create by all his will or resources any life. Nor can any man or woman create life by just saying, “Let there be…”

And whatever was willed, is willed there is.

O, what a wonderful and good, great God we have! O, what a wonderful, mighty, loving Saviour and Lord we have in Jesus, O, what a wonderful Person we have in the Holy Spirit to guide us, help us, teach us, hold us.

It is good to acknowledge and give thanks to the Lord from the beginning of the day.

To know there is nothing without God.

Only God. Only Christ. Only the Holy Spirit.

The only hope for any and all.

O, what a wonderful and fine day the Lord has made!

Now to pray for this lost, sick, and reeling nation ensnared by that Old Dragon, Satan, the devil that we turn to the Lord in fervent humble prayer. Not amiss. That we turn daily to God’s Word. Out only hope of healing the great wounds visible, audible, palpable, and greatly divided nation as we are to enter our 247th year, Lord willing.
