The Tree

where I ought to be

oh

can

you

see

on

that

tree

where I ought to be

you ought to be

the love of God

The tree

of shame

a sinless

God

took my place

all my sin

I am to blame

I’ve heard a lot of really stupid people

over all these years

exclaim

so many foolish

ignorant

vain words

blind to the truth

no one person

no one group of people was responsible for nailing the Saviour

to the world

to that tree

to shed His blood

die

no, alas, the Lord Jesus Christ

went to that tree

of ultimate shame before the world…

to save the world of its sin

if only

if only

if only

individuals would see

hear

“Come”

believe

submit

commit

follow and serve

having observed this very day

THAT Tree

covered in sinless blood

shed by the Living God

 where I

where you

ought to truly be

yet God

in His love and grace

His Father’s heart

put Himself in my place

this truth I came face to face

heart to Truth with

the Way

from darkness to Light

the only Way to Life

knowing
