I like the origins of words. Hilarious ones, to me, because people say them without really knowing why they are using the words they are for something. Yet they have no trouble using the word or words again and again and again.

Hot dogs are one of the best for this.

A lot of opinions about the origin of “hot dog,” but the best road to take in this discovery trip is the name “hot dog” came from Germany. The land of many sausages [as are Italy and France, and other countries, but most folks think of Germany for sausages, and when it comes to hot dogs, that’s the right place to go]. Germany, the home of the frankfurter, Frankfurt, Germany, and the weiner, Vienna, Austria [kind of like a suburb of Germany, like Beverly Hills is to Los Angeles].

A long, thin sausage from Germany, which reminded people of a dachshund, which ironically is called a wiener dog, or sausage dog, but no one calls them hot dogs [see above link]. I find that very funny. Maybe you don’t.

Oh well.

What, you want nothing but bombs, war, tension, hostilities, and it’s all coming to an end soon?

It is, but in the meantime, while being vigilant and faithful, fire up the grill — with REAL wood! — and get some REALLY GOOD hotdogs, they do exist, they are much maligned, like dachshunds are in the annual dog all-star basketball game, have someone you like over the house, have a lot of comfort food, ice cold drinks, crisp, sweet watermelon, wonderful conversation, and enjoy the day, be very, very thankful for the day, for the food, for the friends, for everything the LORD has blessed abundantly with.

Because all the bombs, wars, tension, hostilities, lying, evil, false teachings, and teachers are present and not going away.

But have an enjoyable meal, some smoke in your eyes, good mustard — hold the ketchup! — and look upward, in thankfulness to the LORD, as you chew on that dachshund, I mean hotdog…

Enjoy the links…but maybe eat first, spend some time with family and friends, spend time in God’s Word, in prayer…
