My wife and I, by our tradition, open our Christmas gifts to each other on Christmas Eve. One of the books I received this year from my wonderful wife is Knowing Scripture, by R. C. Sproul.

I began reading this important book this morning and it’s one of those “can’t put down books,” once you begin reading.

Knowing Scripture is the perfect book on WHY it is vital to STUDY the Word of God, and HOW to best approach and learn the studying of, and not just the reading of the Bible. And Knowing Scripture is written for laypeople. Regular folk genuine Christians, or anyone truly interested in reading, studying and understanding better the inerrant LIVING Word of God.

Extremely easy to read. Excellently laid out. Written in a manner drawing the reader into the excitement, the necessity, the instruction, the reasons why studying the Holy Bible is such a vital part of daily life.

The Bible excited R. C. Sproul. The Bible excites me. The Bible ought to excite every person professing to be a Christian. I cannot fathom being a genuine Christian and not having a heart on fire, a passion, a strong daily desire, an excitement for the living and true Word of God.

If you do not have a heart aflame? Are not excited? Are not daily spending time in study in the living and true Word of God? If you have some desire but can’t seem to follow through on that desire? Or, sadly, if you are of the mind either from what you’ve been told, or come to believe yourself you do not need to study God’s Word daily?

I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

To anyone and everyone. Buy it. Read it. Use it. And put it to use in entering God’s Word as God desires us to. To grow closer to Him, closer to His Son, Jesus Christ the Lord.

No excuses for not studying and becoming a stronger, wiser, Christian putting on the full armour of God through the knowledge and understanding, the placing on our hearts and minds His living and active Word. The book of truth. The book of life. The book of Jesus — from Genesis through Revelation.
