"God's Children Are Not For Sale"

Actor Jim Caviezel plays the role of Tim Ballard in the film Sound of Freedom.

Sex trafficking, enslaving human beings, many of whom are children, and young people having their lives stolen from them due to primarily men having earthly power, money, status, and insatiable sexual perversities, sexual immoralities, sexual desires is an inward to the core of the heart shuddering horrid thing for most people. Such abomination, such sin. Incomprehensible to most people what is involved, the staggering numbers, and so on.

Where most people make a conscious effort to avoid thinking about such things. Which is a tragedy since such behavior, such silence, such refusal to face reality.

The filmmakers of Angel Studios, and Mr. Alejandro Monteverde, who directed and co-wrote the film, Sound of Freedom. A noble endeavor, truly. As sex trafficking is indefensible. A great open wound within the things people do to each other.

A noble effort, but do not misunderstand nor categorize me as cynical or negative, from the ingrained New Age [pagan] lexicon thanks to the adoption of nearly everyone in our time to classify something said or written that expresses a view different than the masses have eagerly accepted without putting in much or any thought or consideration. The mob rule of speech and what passes for thinking in our time.

Going to a movie, a lecture, a speech, a debate, listening to and watching someone say something, see actors and actresses in a film shedding light on a subject can be inspiring, perhaps, which quickly fades as most folks move on, and embarking in such an activity does bring about an awareness, certainly.

But such things have been present always. Even before talking pictures and theaters. Before television. In the spoken and written word. By people taking a brave stand and taking risks by speaking out or writing something that caused a stirring.

The cath line from The Stand below the heading given to the following commentary by Dr. Jerry Newcombe is:

“A powerful new movie gives hope that sex trafficking will be once and for all exposed and ended.”

Marketing. Hype, Fanciful idea. A grabber line.

Really, and to state such is not cynical nor negative, but being a child of God, a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ that knows and believes the contents of the Word of God. Which clearly, plainly so that anyone on earth can understand, even a child, that the hearts and minds of men and women are consumed in sin and sinful imaginings continually.

It’s why there was a flood a few thousand years ago that covered the earth and destroyed all the people on earth, save for 8 of them, due to the degree of depravity, immorality, wickedness, and sin.

We are not the power. We are not capable nor should we for a moment vainly, foolishly imagine we can create the kingdom of God on earth and eradicate the evil within the hearts and minds of the people of this world.

This subject is a disturbing one. A tragic one. One to make a person recoil, shudder and even weep.

But a movie, the words of man, creating an organization, marketing, and creating media is not the answer, not the solution.

Evil will not end until the Lord Jesus Christ returns a Second and Final time. And that return only happens because the depravity, the abominations, the immorality, the violence, and the total breakdown of the world’s people reach such a degree the Lord asks if He will find any faithful people on earth when He returns.

“I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”

Luke 18:8

Luke 18

Matthew 24

The whole world becomes Sodom, Gomorrah, Tyre, Babylon, and ancient Rome.

Not cynical nor negative if knowing and believing the Holy Bible.

Reality.

Does this mean we turn away, remain apathetic, silent, and motionless? Surely not. But there is a fine line between the wording found below and people looking inward to themselves foolishly imagining they are capable of bringing about the kingdom of God by their actions, their words, and their efforts. Which removes God. Reveals the true grasp of God’s Word and our role here on earth among those, so many, professing to be His children and disciples of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Do what we can. Certainly. Pray, Work with those directly in the effort to quell and save some precious souls. But understand and speak and write with accuracy and clarity based upon sound doctrine and the clear words within the Holy Bible — such sin, such abomination, such evil is not going to cease or be stopped by the will and efforts of any man, or any number of men and women.

So many resemble those small furry mammals in cages running so fast on a wheel in the cage rather than opening the door, opening the window within their heart, soul, and life, and taking everything to God in prayer. Believing, ACTUALLY, REALLY BELIEVING the Word of God and placing all trust in Him as He is in control. His plan is at work even though we may not understand or even agree.

Do not despair. Do not vainly join the legions imagining they can bring about the kingdom of God on earth via political means, throwing money at a problem, marching, voting, protesting, joining a group…and on and on it has gone.

With the same outcome. Always.

It’s God and His righteousness versus Satan and his wickedness and lies.

And each of those proclaiming to be children of God must be acutely aware, actively enjoined in the spiritual war that rages — but that does not mean for an instant that we are the power, that our will be done.

When the words prayed are “Your will be done,” are we faithfully, truly, sincerely believing what we’re saying? Understanding those words? Or imagining our will is on par, or even greater than God’s?

All enslavement is evil.

All those without the renewing of their heart and mind, without true repentance, without the Holy Spirit thusly entering them and comforting them, helping them are enslaved. To the Evil One.

And this spirit of evil grows on this sordid, fallen, corrupted world.

Want to end sex trafficking truly? Then spread the gospel which is Jesus Christ. Be a true light unto the world, the salt of the earth flavoring words with understanding and execution of the Word of God in our daily actions and verbiage.

But no political issue on a ballot, no politician, no political party or ideology, no social movement of men and women not centered on Christ, on God, with the Holy Spirit abiding within them will ever remove the evil on this earth.

That might be depressing to some. Sound cynical and negative to many. All I can say to you is, get a Bible in your hands, with your eyes, heart and mind affixed within, calmly, prayerfully, faithfully and then get back to me if I missed something in God’s Word and I’m misunderstanding why things are as they are, and how things are going to become ever worse.

And in the meantime take comfort in the arms of the Lord.

Be that light unto the world. Greater than the light needed to pass through film and illuminate a movie screen…

Spread the gospel.

Be heartened and uplifted in the ways and promises of God and not ensnared by the things of this world, the cunning words, the delusions of mere men and women.

Keeping eyes and hearts on Christ.

Watch and teach the children well. In the ways of the Lord.

Pray for those taken into this horrific sin.

Place your heart and mind daily away from self and in consideration of others facing so many trials, sufferings, tribulations, and evil brought into their lives by sinful, vile evil men and women with earthly power for a season, with material wealth that has corrupted them, pursuing their hedonistic immoral fleeting imagined pleasures rather than them pursuing God.

Some people discount America as founded because of slavery. However, the founders created the framework by which it could be uprooted one day; and it was, at a cost of about 700,000 men who died in the Civil War.

Meanwhile, slavery was not unique to America, as the late Dr. Walter Williams of George Mason University once observed. In fact, what is unique were the considerable resources spent to uproot it in the Western world.

Fast forward to today. It is estimated that there are more human slaves today than there were back then, partly because of the increase in population.

Perhaps about two million of today’s slaves are kidnapped children that are being sex-trafficked.

Well, just in time for July 4th comes a powerful new movie exposing this particular problem, and it’s called Sound of Freedom. It stars Jim Caviezel, who played Jesus in The Passion of the Christ.

Jim Caviezel says that by watching the movie you are sending a statement that you are willing to fight this horrible practice of child-sex trafficking. Part of the goal of the film is to create awareness of the problem in the first place. He also said, “It’s got to stop. We have the power to do it.”

I got to speak with Dr. Ted Baehr, the founder and publisher of Movieguide.org, which helps provide a biblical perspective on the movies, about this new movie.

Ted told me, “It’s a wonderful movie. It’s a 4-star movie….These are great film-makers. They did Bella, which is a beautiful film.”

Sound of Freedom is based on the true life story of a Homeland Security agent, Tim Ballard, who doggedly works to rescue these children that are victims of sex trafficking. But after a while, in dangerous parts of Latin America, he is beyond the agency’s jurisdiction. So he ends up choosing to lose his job and his pension in order that he might gain the freedom of these poor kids he is striving to rescue. He also risks his life to do all this.

In particular, Ballard arrested an American pedophile and in the process rescued an 8-year-old boy from this miserable servitude. When Ballard found out the boy had an 11-year-old sister, he could not rest until he rescued her.

Baehr notes, “But Homeland Security was not about to fund all that…so the next thing that happens is he starts his own organization to go out and start dealing with some of these problems. It is an exciting and thrilling movie…It is a heavy topic. It’s not for younger children.” Ted adds it’s not for viewers under 17.

Stanley Goldenberg of South Florida has a ministry, in which he promotes faith-based movies. In a radio segment, Stan told me, “These are little kids being used as sex slaves, sometimes multiple times a day. And then when they’re worn out, they sell their organs. This is a horrendous crime, and the thought of the filmmakers is to put this in front of people in a very well done film. This is a top-notch film, incredible to watch in every way.”

I’ve seen the movie, Sound of Freedom, at a premiere in Miami and highly recommend it – to age-appropriate audiences. The filmmakers and Tim Ballard himself appeared afterward. They said they want the movie to be like today’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin, which pricked the conscience of the nation, helping to spark the war that ended American slavery.

Of course, Sound of Freedom deals with a most disgusting subject, but it does so in a tasteful way. It’s like a crime drama that keeps you glued to your seat.

Here’s the trailer for Sound of Freedom.

Historically, the church of Jesus Christ has been at the forefront of setting the prisoners free of rescuing those in danger. The least we could do is to support the efforts promoted in this movie – to work toward ending this terrible scourge of our time.

In a forward to the new bookStealing Freedom, Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., asseverates, “As Christ’s ambassadors, we are called to be at the heart of every good movement of social and political concern.”

William Wilberforce was the great Christian abolitionist who got slavery ended in the entire British Empire, which took him 50 years to accomplish. He once said, “Let it not be said that I was silent when they needed me.”

One of the lines in the movie is, “God’s children are not for sale.” Sound of Freedom aims to pressure authorities to much more aggressively arrest and convict both the buyers and the sellers. And thus destroy this illegal market that ruins the lives of these poor children and the souls of the perpetrators.
