Norman Rockwell Thanksgiving | Muddy Colors

By the President of the United States of America—

A Proclamation

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor—and Whereas both Houses of Congress have by their Joint Committee requested me “to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.”

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be—That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks—for his kind care and protection of the People of this country previous to their becoming a Nation—for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his providence, which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war—for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed—for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted, for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions—to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually—to render our national government a blessing to all the People, by constantly being a government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed–to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord—To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and Us—and generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

Joshua 24:15

Last Friday I  wrote a few words and posted the following from pastor Greg Laurie on having a Happy Thanksgiving. Included in this present posting is that message in its entirety, along with something I found in my inbox this morning from Gatestone Institute, written by Mr. Lawrence Kadish, “Thanks For Who We Are,” which appears following my earlier posting.

Just as every good work without acknowledgment of God, without speaking of the Lord Jesus Christ avails little, or even nothing, writing of the supposed goodness of Americans without acknowledging God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and what is most important in this temporary life we imagine as reality but is a brief vapor that will eternally disappear while we spend little or no time in the spiritual, heavenly thinking which IS REALITY and IS ETERNAL avails little or nothing, depending on whether having faith in Jesus and the whole Holy Bible or having no faith at all, or only faith in self, the things of this world — which will vanish and be forever forgotten.

Without the mention of God, without the faith in God, without the true belief in God, without the knowledge and mention of Scripture, without the knowing and belief in the Lord Jesus Christ and what He did for us…all else is meaningless. Foolishness. Futile. Vanity. Wasting time. Wasting the life given to each person — by God. It’s like knowing which team won the Thanksgiving Day football game 16 years ago, and what the score was, or how many floats were in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 16 years ago. Meaningless. Forgotten. Not important.

Not paying attention or caring about what truly is important and matters. Eternally.

I don’t think that truth really sinks into folks.

It’s all about God. It’s all about Jesus. It’s all about the Holy Spirit. It’s all about faith in,and obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ.

He Who created all things known and the invisible. He Who provides every breath so that when inhaling your Thanksgiving feast and trying to talk and drink and you begin to choke — it is only by the will of God that you receive your next breath, your very heartbeat, to continue on in this temporary life — for the most part ignoring Him and His Word.

If we are to have any revival, if we are to receive the blessings we desire, each of us must experience repentance, individual revival, and come to an understanding, and more than just understanding — a LIVING OUT DAILY AND CONTINUALLY OUR THANKSGIVING TO THE LORD FOR WHAT HE HAS DONE AND CONTINUES TO DO — in our life here on earth, in America.

Each of us ought to fall prone daily in worship and thanksgiving unto the Lord.

Above all else.

I sincerely within my heart and soul hope and pray anyone reading this has as blessed a day, a week, a month, a year, a life as is possible as long as the Lord tarries. And if yet rebelling, resisting, refusing to turn and face God in humility and hear, really hear the Truth leading the coming into the Light to receive the Life, it is my sincere prayer within my heart and soul that you pause this day, this time of year — but do it today for none of us know if the next breath is our last and eternity is a long time to exist in torment, suffering and eternal regret with no other thought in mind then, “I should have believed! I should have believed! I should have believed!” because you’ll be in the midst of the likes of Adolf Hitler, every Islamic ayatollah, every unrepentant so-thought “good person” that refused the Lord Jesus Christ, refused the truth, life, and light of the gospel and thought you knew better.

Give thanks today, every day, always unto the Lord.

In all things.

In ALL THINGS.

Believers increase in faith.

Unbeliever, what are you waiting for?

Come on, let each of us turn back to or for the first time turn to the Lord. In all things. Each day. Each night. Not just on certain days, certain times of the year. In times of everyday tasks, normality, in goodness, in plenty, at all times. Acknowledging our Good Good and Great God and the Lord Jesus Christ. Truly partake of the feast offered up by the Lord which feeds and satisfies forever.

Okay, Lord willing, I will return to this spot after Thanksgiving Day and resume what it is I do here read on what was earlier posted, and what was found this morning… [KP / ACP / Wednesday, November 27th, 2024]

IT ISN’T TURKEY DAY.

IT ISN’T WATCH FOOTBALL & BE A GLUTTON DAY.

IT IS THANKSGIVING DAY.

Only in America.

And here’s the how, the what, and the why. Every American ought to come to know, understand, and begin to live accordingly. Thankful EVERY DAY to God Almighty.

Can we stop being so ignorant, so crass, so shallow, so predictable, so blind, so selfish, so lost? For more than one day in this nation blessed by God unlike any other? Made possible only by the Divine Providence of God. Perhaps make this Thanksgiving Day the day to get back to where we belong America…

To God. To Jesus. To the Holy Spirit. To the Word of God. Prayerfully. Faithfully. Humbly.

…for there’s a lot to be thankful for. Especially to the Lord!

How about we repent and get back to our foundations? Sounds kinda good, doesn’t it?

Words are very important. Ideas, viewpoints, and history are very important.

Read the following slowly allowing each word to saturate your heart, your mind and become grafted into you for more than a moment, more than a day…

How To Be Happy At Thanksgiving

November 20, 2024

Greg Laurie

Harvest

VIDEO

Thanksgiving is more than just turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie—it’s a time to focus on gratitude to God. In this heartwarming and insightful message, Pastor Greg Laurie and his wife Kathy share their family traditions, like sweet potatoes with marshmallows, while reminding us of the deeper meaning of the holiday. Drawing from Psalm 100 and 1 Corinthians 11, Pastor Greg explains how Thanksgiving is rooted in gratitude for God’s blessings and faithfulness.

Discover the historical origins of Thanksgiving, from George Washington’s proclamation to its establishment as a national holiday, and reflect on how we can keep its true purpose alive today. Greg emphasizes the importance of giving thanks in all circumstances—good or bad—by trusting in God’s goodness and remembering His ultimate gift: salvation through Jesus Christ.

Through joyful worship, heartfelt gratitude, and serving others, we can find lasting happiness—not just on Thanksgiving, but every day. Whether you’re celebrating with family or reflecting alone, this message will inspire you to make Thanksgiving a time of praise, reflection, and hope.

Join us as we count our blessings and rediscover the joy of giving thanks!

Thanks for Who We Are

At a time when our enemies believe we are a nation at war with itself, angry with our neighbors, split by partisan divide, burdened by economic woes, and incapable of empathy, there comes a story this holiday season that reminds friend and foe alike who we are.

In a Canton, Michigan, plans for the annual holiday performance of The Nutcracker suddenly went off the boards when all the necessary props for the Plymouth-Canton Ballet Company went missing. Thousands of dollars of pieces required to stage the tradition were stolen – from the Christmas tree to the golden backdrop that serves to highlight the ballet’s characters.

It seemed as if the spirit of this holy holiday season had been carted off by thieves.

Then, who we are as Americans appeared in force.

Community volunteers offered to start building replacement props. A GoFundMe page promptly raised thousands of dollars, while a former dance member lent a much-needed throne. “The Grinch” who sought to steal the spirit and joy of a community tradition was confronted by the underlying strength of America; a profoundly diverse nation that is now and will forever be united in the shared ideals of brotherhood, democracy, community and charity.

As we enter the holiday season, it is fitting and appropriate to step away from the divisive topics of public policy and partisan politics and focus on what binds us together.

The crooks who made off with the trappings needed to stage The Nutcracker in Michigan will ultimately find their Christmas to be cold and barren. Their criminal actions, however, have made the rest of us that much richer by allowing us to witness the response from an America we know and love.

To you, your families, and all who find insight in Gatestone commentaries, I wish you a happy, healthy holiday season.
