State of the American Church: Apostasy is Rampant
“Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord GOD, “That I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread, Nor a thirst for water, But of hearing the words of the LORD.”
Amos 8:11
A person cannot be a Christian and reject the Trinity. Just isn’t possible. No matter how convoluted, or how it’s explained to be possible. It isn’t.
God is comprised of Three Distinct Individuals as One. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. If you can’t handle that because you’re bogged down in worldly logic, denying the omnipotent God, that’s on you and your limited ability to believe. To have the necessary faith. Trusting more in the world, in the material world, than trusting in the LORD and in His eternal, inerrant, infallible, unchangeable living and active Word.
It is greatly saddening to discover that in America, the church is so dead, so lost, so conformed to the world.
Want to fill a church? See an awakening in America? Then there must be a genuine revival in people professing faith in God, in Jesus, in the Holy Spirit, and in the whole Holy Bible. A revival of pastors, ministers, preachers, elders, individual congregants — all those professing to be Christian to truly be living, born anew lives, changed from within by the Supernatural power of the Holy Spirit.
Preach the truth of the whole Word. Preach sin. Preach judgment. Preach the free gift of grace. Preach repentance. Preach salvation only through Jesus Christ. Preach all of the Holy Bible. Boldly. Truthfully. Relying on the Holy Spirit for help.
No more pep rallies, motivational speakers, soft dung. No more rock concerts passing for praise and worship.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
2 Timothy 4:3-6
It’s about God.
It’s about Jesus.
It’s about the Holy Spirit.
It’s about the Holy Bible — every word of it.
It’s about either being saved or being condemned. It’s about eternal life or eternal death. It’s about heaven or hell.
It’s about sin. Judgment. Redemption. Freedom. Sacrifice. Love — the love of God as He defines it and executes it, not the definition of the world.
If not doing these things?
You aren’t a Christian church. You aren’t really a pastor or minister for God, called by God. You aren’t really living out the Word, living out daily by example being a light unto the world, the salt of the earth, appearing different from the people of the world — not conforming to it. Not appesing, accommodating or approving of the world and its message but being challenged in church, challenged in daily life as a disciple, a true disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ, Yeshua Hamashiach.
That’s how you fill up the pews, the seats, and get people interested in, listening, and living lives that come to Christ.
People are thirsting, starving for the truth. Hungry and yearning for help, peace, the way to live, the way to eternal life. Only Jesus, only Jesus, only Jesus. And not the fake Jesus spoken of in the overwhelming majority of American churches, if they even mention Jesus.
Remove the scales from the eyes, the dung filling the ears, and turn back to the Triune God of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Wake up! Every individual professing faith in Jesus, professing to be a Christian — Christ follower, born from above, born again, disciple.
Now. Not later.
There may not be a later for you.

Most Americans—Including Christian Churchgoers—Reject the Trinity
Read the full American Worldview Inventory 2025: Report 3: “Most Americans—Including Christian Churchgoers—Reject the Trinity”, here.
Dear _______,
Despite two out of three Americans identifying as Christian, my latest report from the American Worldview Inventory 2025 reveals that only 11% of U.S. adults—and just 16% of self-identified Christians—believe in the trinity.

How can Christianity thrive if so few accept its central teachings?
The trinity—God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—is a historic, essential doctrine of the Christian faith. Yet these latest findings reveal widespread confusion, misunderstanding, and rejection of this core biblical teaching.
Some key findings from the new report include:
- Only 29% of U.S. adults believe in the presence and power of the Holy Spirit.
- Among regular evangelical church attenders, just one in four (25%) believe in the full trinitarian view of God.
- The only group where a majority affirm the trinity are those with a biblical worldview—just 62%, even among them.
These results are not isolated. As my ongoing worldview research shows, they reflect a broader erosion of biblical understanding. Few Americans possess a cohesive biblical worldview, and even among Christian churchgoers, essential doctrines are increasingly unknown or ignored.
Sometimes it seems that the primary theologians influencing the spiritual views of America today are figures like Tucker Carlson, Joe Rogan, and Bill Maher. Meanwhile, many churches are failing to teach the basic theological building blocks of a biblical worldview.
And this lack of theological clarity has deep implications for families, churches, and for our nation.
These findings highlight the growing need for the Church to rekindle its commitment to helping people truly know God and understand His nature. The widespread dismissal of core biblical truths should stir a deep concern among those who care about the spiritual health of our nation.
But there is hope. Our mission at the Cultural Research Center is to equip leaders, parents, and churches to understand these shifts and respond wisely.
Today’s report is the third from the American Worldview Inventory 2025: A National Study for Strengthening the Worldview of Americans, designed specifically to examine concerning trends in American beliefs about God, truth, sin, and salvation. Through it, we seek to understand why these key aspects of American faith are weak and to provide practical insights for rebuilding a strong biblical worldview in our nation.
We appreciate your continued support of these crucial projects to strengthen biblical understanding in America.
Blessings,
George Barna
