“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Be still, and know that I am God;

I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.” Selah

(Psalm 46:1, 10-11)

The LORD of hosts, the sovereign Creator and God of the whole earth is, in this season, sending a message of mercy to His church and issuing the call for His children to come out from the world and to come back underneath the safety and shelter of His mighty, omnipotent wings. Jehovah Sabaoth, the LORD of host, has surrounded His saints with a great host of warring angels to help us fight our battles against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12). He sees the cloud of spiritual darkness hovering over His children and the difficulties we are facing in these evil days. The One who died and gave His all for us will not desert us now. “For your Maker is your husband, the LORD of hosts is His name; and your Redeemer is the Holy One of Israel; He is called the God of the whole earth” (Isaiah 54:5). He will defend and protect His Bride, His Church, just as He has promised to help His chosen nation, Israel. The eternal, everlasting Lord is our Savior, Defender, and Redeemer. He has bound us to Himself in covenant love and will never leave us nor forsake us. He died to save us, and now He ever lives to intercede to help us; He will gird our human weakness with His all-sufficiency and make us more than conquerors and lead us to victory.

Whatever our sorrows or sufferings may be, let us not hang our harps on the willow trees, as those who have lost all hope and joy (Psalm 137:2). The Lord of Hosts, our Redeemer is the foundation of all our hopes and He will help us. In the richness of His grace, He will bless us and fulfill His purpose for our lives. Let us use what little strength we have to cast ourselves at His feet, and trust in His abounding love and faithfulness to complete what He began in us (Philippians 1:6). “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms; He will thrust out the enemy from before you, and will say, Destroy!” (Deuteronomy 33:27).

“For I know that my Redeemer lives,

and He shall stand at last on the earth;

and after my skin is destroyed, this I know,

that in my flesh I shall see God,

whom I shall see for myself,

and my eyes shall behold, and not another,

how my heart yearns within me.”

(Job 19:25-27)

As the Redeemer of Israel, Jehovah secured His people’s freedom from captivity. The Holy One of Israel wed Himself to His chosen people at Sinai and sealed His covenant with His love (Exodus19:1, 2). Israel vowed her fidelity to the Lord that day, but repeatedly broke her covenant vows and turned to worship idols. Despite their constant wanderings and idolatry, the Lord has remained a faithful and devoted husband to His people and has even initiated a new covenant with them. “But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people” (Jeremiah 31:31). The effectiveness of this new covenant does not depend on His people’s faithfulness, but solely on His faithfulness and love alone.

How blessed we are as Gentiles to also receive the benefits and blessings of this new covenant promise. In the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ we have the fulfillment of this blessed covenant. Our Redeemer, has nailed our sins to the cross and paid the high price to release us from the bondage of sin. “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace” (Ephesians 1:7). He has redeemed our life from the pit to unite us to Himself, and in the Church He has a Bride, who in her purity and fidelity, will glorify His name (Revelation 19:6-9). Let us draw strength from the knowledge that our Redeemer is our true Husband and that He has bound us to Himself in an everlasting covenant. Let us abide each day in the security of His loving arms and live a life of devotion to the One our heart loves.

“[He] gave Himself for us,

that He might redeem us from every lawless deed

and purify for Himself is own special people,

zealous for good works.”

(Titus 2:14)

Heavenly Father,

“Let God arise,

let His enemies be scattered;

let those also who hate Him flee from before Him.

But let the righteous be glad;

let them rejoice before God;

yes, let them rejoice exceedingly.

Sing to God, sing praises to His name;

extol Him who rides on the clouds,

by His name YAH, and rejoice before Him.

A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows,

is God in His holy habitation.

God sets the solitary in families;

He brings out those who are bound into prosperity;

but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.

Blessed be the Lord,

who daily loads us with benefits,

the God of our salvation!

Our God is the God of salvation;

and to GOD the Lord belong escapes from death.”

(Psalm 68:1, 3-6 19-20)

“Blessed be Your glorious name,

which is exalted above all blessing and praise!

You alone are the LORD.

You have made heaven,

the heaven of heavens, with all their host,

the earth and everything on it,

The seas and all that is in them,

and You preserve them all.

The host of heaven worships You.”

(Nehemiah 9:5bb, 6)

“Now therefore, our God,

the great, the mighty, and awesome God”

(Nehemiah 9:23a)

We bless and extol Your wonderful and worthy name,

Lord Jesus, for You have redeemed our life from the pit

by the power of Your atoning blood,

and by Your grace have saved us, and

“raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

that in the ages to come You might show the exceeding riches of Your grace in Your kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”

(Ephesians 2:6, 7)

Blessed Redeemer, You have filled our hearts

with greater joy!

Our mouths overflow with gratitude and love

as we sing Your praise!

Be magnified and glorified in our lives

and let Your glory fill all the earth.

In Your glorious high and holy name,

Lord Jesus. Amen.
