For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

Grace is “the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man… not by works of righteousness which we have done.”

 

For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men…

But after the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared.

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and the renewing of the Holy Ghost.

Titus 2: 11, 3: 4-5

 

It is, therefore, constantly in contrast to law, under which God demands righteousness from man, as, under grace, he gives righteousness to man.

The immediate rest of the testing was the rejection of Christ by the Jews, and His crucifixion by Jew and Gentile.
