Do we? Why not?

by Ken Pullen

Scripture appears in Italics & is from the King James Version

copyright 2016 — but feel free to pass it on, if so inclined

Chief among sinners, was I

needing to confess to my Lord

let no man, nor woman hear my crimes

pleas

inner spirit soul diseased

among the walking dead -eyed

doin’ as I pleased

knew my days were numbered

not knowing when the last page

on the calendar wouldn’t be turned

an I’d begin to be burned

goin’ back to the foundations, what I’d heard

read

learned

from my youth

only finally seein’

though always believin’

yet goin’ my own way every day

living among the walking dead-eyed

ignoring the price He’d paid

for me

for you

for everyone everywhere ever

took almost 40 years of wanderin’ in a desert lost

oh the cost my Lord paid

for such a sinner as me

pain I daily feel can’t compare

to what I put Him through on the cross

Do we?

Why not?

Heed His call, walk in His Light

live His Truth

follow His way?

Do we?

Why not?

One winter’s night in a room alone

I was there with the only One that could give life

the only One where a person is never alone

He had been so patient, so merciful, such grace

shining His salvation

into my hard heart

His Word bringing me out of the dark

Took all those years convinced I was doomed

to finally one winters night

come face to Face

with all that matters

all that is true

how could our Lord be willing to save such a sinner

as me?

Trust

believe

see

let his Word remove the corrupting rust

from my cold heart

came out of the darkness into

the Way

the Truth

the Light

that winter’s night

only by God’s desiring me

forgivin’

by my repentant heart and soul

confessin’

askin’

forgive me Lord and I will be yours from this night forth

I want to live

eternal

to be pleasing

acceptable

a man after Thy heart

Do we?

heed His words?

Why not?

Brethren,

if a man be overtaken in a fault,

ye which are spiritual,

restore such an one in the spirit of meekness;

considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.

For

if a man think himself to be something,

when he is nothing,

he deceiveth himself.

But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone,

and not in another.

For every man shall bear his own burden.

Let him that is taught in the word

communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.

Be not deceived;

God is not mocked:

for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption;

but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

And let us not be weary in well doing:

for in due season

we shall reap,

if we faint not.

As

we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men,

especially

unto them who are of the household of faith.

This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord,

that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk,

in the vanity of their mind,

Having the understanding darkened,

being alienated from the life of God

through the ignorance that is in them,

because of the blindness of their heart:

Who being past feeling

have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

But

ye have not so learned Christ;

If so be that ye have heard him,

and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:

That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man,

which is corrupt

according to the deceitful lusts;

And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

And that ye put on the new man,

which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Wherefore

putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour:

for we are members one of another.

Be ye angry,

and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

Neither give place to the devil.

Let him that stole steal no more:

but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good,

that he may have to give to him that needeth.

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth,

but that which is good

to the use of edifying,

that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

And grieve not the holy Spirit of God,

whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Let all bitterness,

and wrath,

and anger,

and clamour,

and evil speaking,

be put away

from you,

with all malice:

And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another,

even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

But I say unto you which hear,

Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,

Bless them that curse you,

and pray for them which despitefully use you.

And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek

offer also the other;

and him that taketh away thy cloke

forbid not to take thy coat also.

Give

to every man that asketh of thee;

and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.

And as ye would that men should do to you,

do ye also to them likewise.

For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye?

for sinners also love those that love them.

And if ye do good

to them which do good to you,

what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.

And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye?

for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.

But

love ye your enemies,

and do good,

and lend,

hoping for nothing again;

and your reward shall be great,

and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned:

forgive,

and ye shall be forgiven:

Give,

and it shall be given unto you;

good measure,

pressed down,

and shaken together,

and running over,

shall men give into your bosom.

For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

And he spake a parable unto them,

Can the blind lead the blind?

shall they not both fall into the ditch?

The disciple is not above his master:

but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye,

but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Either how canst thou say to thy brother,

Brother,

let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye,

when

thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Thou hypocrite,

cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly

to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye.

For

a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit;

neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

For every tree is known by his own fruit.

For of thorns men do not gather figs,

nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.

A good man

out of the good treasure of his heart

bringeth forth that which is good;

and an evil man

out of the evil treasure of his heart

bringeth forth that which is evil:

for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

And why call ye me, Lord, Lord,

and do not the things which I say?

Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them,

I will shew you to whom he is like:

He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep,

and laid the foundation on a rock:

and when the flood arose,

the stream beat vehemently upon that house,

and could not shake it:

for it was founded upon a rock.

But

he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation

built an house upon the earth;

against which

the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell;

and the ruin of that house was great.

I sit alone, nevermore, this summers night

askin’

Do we

heed His words?

Why not?

Knowin’

I need to ask myself the questions every day

for I fail in the flesh more times

than I can count

lookin’

findin’

all the answers to every, every, every

every

thing

I need

in Him

Jesus Christ the Lord

Son of God

Saviour, Lord of my life

never alone no matter the season

Son of God, His Spirit

in me

I am nothing without

the

dwelling

of the Holy Spirit in me

war of flesh and spirit

daily

must turn to

trust in

rely upon

the

Holy Spirit

renewing

my mind

my spirit

(my)

I ask for a pure heart

with this new start

now years in the makin’

just want to live

to please Him

be acceptable

unto my Lord

askin’

Do we

heed His words?

Why not?
