What a real revival is. A REAL awakening is. It happened for a reason. God’s reason, God’s plan. Were it not for George Whitefield and The Great Awakening in the Colonies for the 30 years prior, there likely would not have been an American Revolution, the founding documents we have, and America may not have come into existence. Yes, that dramatic, that important, that historic, that real and true.
Other awakenings and revivals have occurred in our history. Not like the Whitefield one, but massive, genuine awakenings, revivals nonetheless.
In the 1970s, there was the Jesus Revolution.
Nothing since.
A lot of talk, a lot of hype, a lot of words. Something seems about to happen. Only to never ignite as it could. The Holy Spirit, God is ready to pour out, to work, but the individual must be willing, must be ready, must come to the Lord. The Lord is right there, right here, right next to the person — waiting, calling. Will the individual hear and respond? That’s the question needing an answer.
And, when a lot of individuals respond, be they believers who have been backslidden, lax, lukewarm, cold, going through the motions, silent, fearful, no different from the world — to be awakened? Well, then things can catch fire. Hearts, minds, spirits, and souls can ignite and catch fire for the Way, the Truth, the Light, and the Life, Jesus Christ, and the whole Word of God. To humble oneself and seek the ways of the Lord to have Jesus become Lord of one’s life.
It’s incredible.
Be wonderful to experience another real, true, genuine awakening and revival in America, wouldn’t it?
Well, it begins with that which looks back at you in the mirror and within the heart of those individuals on fire for the Lord. That’s how it all begins. One flame, one spark, to light and ignite many.

In the 18th century, a spiritual and cultural revolution swept across Great Britain and its American colonies. The marvel of this revolution was the son of a Tavern keeper. Out of these humble beginnings came a powerful voice proclaiming the new birth being ‘Born Again’. Whitefield’s voice startled the church like a trumpet blast. His theatrical persuasion transformed the pulpit into sacred theatre. He took the church outdoors and preached to tens of thousands at a time from Moorfields in London to Boston Common in the American colonies.
He lifted his voice to preach to the spiritually starving masses and ignited the Evangelical Revival and the First Great Awakening. Whitefield was the most famous man of his time. He crossed the Atlantic 13 times, preached 18,000 sermons to an estimated 10 million people. He brought about massive social, political, and spiritual transformation in the Transatlantic world with his message of the ‘new birth’ being ‘Born Again’.
