How the Old Testament Sets the Stage for the New

Any true disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ ought to be within, deeply within, the opening books of God’s word to us every day. It’s too bad it was determined to call those books “The Old Testament,” which right off the bat repels, creates disinterest in many, but without the first books and only going to the latter books and letters a person is greatly missing out. Missing a lot.

It’s like getting dressed up really nicely and thinking you’re all set, looking fine without putting on underwear and pants. Yes, like that.

You’re half dressed, naked in your walk, if neglecting the first books of God’s word to us.

The so-named Old Testament is all about Jesus. Those books are all about history, human nature, adventure, intrigue, the working of God, and God’s people versus the world. And in reading, studying the first books you will come to an awareness, grow in spirutal depth, maturity and understanding, while coming to an awareness as Solomon wrote, there is nothing new under the sun, except the advancements of human knowledge, thus technology — but our nature, the working of God, it’s all there to discover and hold close and dear in the first books of the Holy Bible, God’s breathed words to us.

Why only listen to half the conversation?

Can’t really know in doing such, can we?

Venture into, deeply, the first books up to the latter ones — daily, nightly.

And see how things increase. The truly important matters. Peace and understanding with God, in Christ.

Try it. Starting today. And remain disciplined, vigilant, jubulant in your reading and discovering.

Why the Old Testament is Key to Understanding the New

Everybody knows that the New Testament is really important to Christians. But what about the Old Testament? Does it have value to bring, too?

Many people think of the Old Testament as a confusing mix of mythology, ancient Jewish laws, and poetry—all presided over by an angry, hard-to-please god. Are they right? Is the Old Testament, well, OLD, outdated, and irrelevant?

No! The Old Testament is much more than that, as Rev. Peter Howe explains. In fact, it is utterly indispensable to the New Testament and to a true Christian worldview. It was the Bible that Jesus read. It has even supplied many of the foundational values that Western society is built on!
