The Further A Society Drifts From Truth, The More It Will Hate Those Who Speak It

We’re seeing a perfect storm in America. Two things are happening at the same time, but should not be. Evil is advancing godlessness while churches have been silent or fearfully retreating. A demonic, chaotic culture has collided with a comfortable Church.
Something had to give. Now, since the assassination of Christian martyr, Charlie Kirk, we see more clearly than ever two kingdoms colliding.
In this clash of worldviews, one worldview justifies chaos and destruction in the name of “democracy” and oppression. The other proclaims true freedom found only in Christ.
The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ is Lord, and His Truth endures forever.
On the other hand, you may have heard the expression that the further a society drifts from truth, the more it will hate those who speak it. Welcome to America 2025.
We can ignore the fact things are getting darker as wickedness or lawlessness spread, or we can understand the times and pray about what we can do. Romans 12:21 states: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.“
Though the church is in an intensifying battle of good vs. evil and truth vs. lies, too many professing Christians seem to have a cruise ship mentality rather than being battle ready. Being comfortable may be one of the worst things for a Christian.
What will it take for more professing believers in Christ to get equipped and prepared?
Charlie Kirk understood the battle we’re in from both a physical and eternal perspective. He would often send Scripture out to encourage those in his inner circle and became bolder in his faith during the last several years of his life.
The morning that he was assassinated, Charlie sent out the following Bible verse to some close friends and Turning Point USA staff members: “…a wide door for effective service has opened to me, and there are many adversaries.” (1 Cor. 16:9)
Like many prominent Christians today, Charlie had mockers, adversaries, death threats, and even after he was assassinated, they accused him of speaking hate, lying about what he said, and took his quotes out of context. Cowards.
This tactic is frequently used today because enemies of God know people will believe lies if they are repeated often enough. Charlie didn’t hate anyone and in his defense of the Christian faith and biblical worldview, he responded with love and respect.
He sincerely cared about those who disagreed with him and even those who hated him, wanting them to be saved. We can learn from his example as he humbly followed Christ. He was able to do what he did because he surrendered himself to God’s will.
The Apostle Paul also had a wide door open to him for ministry – but he, too had many adversaries. What did he do? He went through the door anyway. He stated: “For we do not want you to be unaware, brethren, of our affliction which came to us in Asia, that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life; indeed, we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead; who delivered us from so great a peril of death, and will deliver us, He on whom we have set our hope. And He will yet deliver us” (2 Corinthians 1:8-10).
We can trust the holy God of the universe with our past, present, and future.
Opposition to Jesus, the Bible, and the truth is nothing new, but today it may be even more obvious and intense than ever. I’ve never seen such blatant and proud rebellion against God. This is in part because the devil knows his time is short and we know these are the last of the last days.
As believers, we know that those who desire to live godly lives will suffer persecution (2 Tim. 3:12). To better understand, it’s important to understand the spiritual conflict.
Every human being was created in the image of God. Imago Dei. However, not every person is a child of God. This is so important to differentiate. There’s the Holy Spirit and there are many unholy spirits; literal demons that drive or influence people.
Writer and podcast host, Virgil Walker attended the Charlie Kirk memorial and explains how people with opposite worldviews react. Mentioning the destruction caused by BLM Global five years ago vs some of the fruit following Kirk’s murder, he writes: “No buildings burned. No businesses looted. No cities reduced to ash. Instead, only candles burned — vigil candles, lifted high in memory of a man who gave his life for truth. People gathered in churches. Prayers rose instead of Molotov cocktails. Instead of mobs demanding blood, thousands made decisions to follow Christ. Politicians who would never publicly declare the name of Jesus suddenly spoke openly about the need for the gospel. Instead of excuses for lawlessness, there were testimonies of salvation.”
For believers, “greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). The Spirit will guide us into all truth.
For unbelievers, they are not of God and cannot understand spiritual things. Theirs is the spirit of antichrist, while we have received the Spirit of Jesus Christ. Got it? Opposite worldviews.
Jesus also said to remember they hated Him first. The Apostle John also adds: “Do not be surprised, brothers, if the world hates you” (1 John. 3:13).
In the gospel of John, shortly after it says God so loved the world, the Bible explains: “And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God” (John 3:19-21, emphasis added).
The spirit of the world leaves a trail: death, division, hate, rage, vengeance, and more.
The Spirit of God produces good fruit, including love, joy, peace, conviction of sin, repentance, faith, and worship.
It’s time for true believers to take a bold stand. This includes pastors and church leaders. We must regain some godly influence in our culture!
Theologian John R.W. Stott once stated: “We should not ask, ‘What is wrong with the world?’ for that diagnosis has already been given. Rather we should ask, “What has happened to salt and light?”
John Stott believed the problem stems from the decline of Christian influence in society and humanity’s devaluation of human worth, leading to societal decay. Underlying it all is a warped worldview that justifies sin and calls evil good and good evil (Isaiah 5:20).
Stott declared that Christians today must “allow the Word of God to confront us, to disturb our security, to undermine our complacency,” and overthrow worldly patterns of thought and behavior.
For too long, church leaders have wrongly assumed Christians should not get ‘political.’ They have self-censored their Sunday sermons under the faulty, unconstitutional idea of the ‘separation of church and state.’ This is ignorance of not only American history but the Bible itself.
So, what we are seeing today played out across the country is godlessness, a manifestation of increasing demonic agendas. At the same time, most churches in America have not been confronting evil and addressing cultural issues of the day.
This is a perfect storm in which we are engulfed. But God is sovereign and has ordained this time in history as well as determined the number of our days.
There are souls to be saved and territory to be regained. Let’s make every day count for the cause of Christ, the gospel, and freedom.
We can do all things through Christ, who gives us strength, and our struggle is not against flesh and blood. 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 states: “Be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.”
Here’s hoping God unleashes a revival in our land and a true shift is happening. It feels like things will never be the same but I think a lot depends if the church wakes up.
That being said, I agree with many Christian conservatives who sense they cannot recall a time when we were inspired to stand for Christ more boldly, oppose the lies and speak the truth about things that matter.
