Wily Words

A CROOKED PATH

Began this a while ago. Finally got around to finishing it. KP, ACP, Monday, June 20th, 2022

I, the LORD, examine the mind, I test the heart to give to each according to his way, according to what his actions deserve.

Jeremiah 17:10 — Christian Standard Bible

but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

James 3:8 — English Standard Version

Words are arguably one of the most important aspects of human life. If blind or deaf human communication with words for understanding exists. What the mind thinks, believes, and considers important is nearly as vital to human life as breath and blood. And aside from images, it is words that comprise that massive sphere of what resides within each person, no matter the language native to their tongue or mind.

So many people saying so much. Or nothing at all in the tsunami of words spewed, spoken, read, and written daily. So many words spoken and written today now comprise a long list whose meanings have been changed. To benefit the advancement of evil while attempting to hinder true Christians.

Try to imagine a life lived without words. No words at all.

A Tree Is Known by Its Fruit

“Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or make the tree bad and its fruit bad, for the tree is known by its fruit. You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good person out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Matthew 12:33-37 — English Standard Version

Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops.

Luke 12:2-3 — English Standard Version

While doing this pause and try to imagine the level of noise emanating from every person on this earth, the continual, ever-increasing volume and volume of words that are entering God’s heart every second of every day?

We’re not even going to enter into the world of profanity here, although if we’re honest? Much of the words spoken, and many written must sound and be profane to God.

We’re going to consider wily words. I define these as words used expressly by Christians who have more of the world and 20th and 21st-century doctrines and beliefs, ways within them than they have Christ, the Holy Spirit in them. Or so it appears. So it sounds and reads.

Wily, an adjective, is defined by the world as: skilled at gaining an advantage, especially deceitfully.

Now we’re not going to enter this thinking “The words professed Christians use to be deceitful? Trying to gain an advantage?”

No, wily words are those spoken or written by a professed Christian in which it is evidenced they abide more in the world than in the Word of God and what being renewed of mind and spirit truly means to them. Do we submit to God or submit to the world?

Take gay.

Or acronyms such as LBGTQ+ XYZΩφ∞ to the 10th power²

Utter nonsense. Appeasing the world rather than being separate from the world and standing boldly for the preservation of language which provides the way to preserve the Word of God.

Can you see the connection? The importance of thinking and using the right words rather than the world’s words? For who, after all, is the author and leading proponent of using the world’s words, speech, acronyms, abbreviations, and so on? Is it not Satan himself working through those he has enslaved and serving him?

Are we ever vigilant and understanding of the wiles of the devil? His cunning and seductive ways? His being the father of lies? Appearing as an angel of light as do all his servants? He being the master twisting, perverting, and corrupting language? Such as we have now adopted and use in our daily lives that we should not be using?

And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds.

2 Corinthians 11:14-15 — English Standard Version

Now the serpent was the most cunning of all the wild animals that the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You can’t eat from any tree in the garden’? ”

Genesis 3:1 — Christian Standard Bible

“You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”

John 8:44 — New International Version

Or words such as cynic, cynical, or pessimistic in to describe a fellow true disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ because that brother or sister refuses to abide by the ways of the world and has no problem expressing objectively and opening the sin, the evil, the decline all around us and does not desire to cling to a worldview but a Biblical worldview. Not concerned with being friends with the world, but concerned with being displeasing to God their Father, Jesus their Lord, and not grieving the Holy Spirit indwelling them? Only to usually be misunderstood as being judgmental or thinking themselves superior when the exact opposite is true?

Not using words such as;

Sin

Evil

Pagan

Liar

False teacher

Submit

Humble

Repentance

Satan

The devil

And on and on we could go. The list could be long enough to create its own perverse dictionary as so many words have been now corrupted, perverted, estranged, or misused.

How about we pause. And begin to finally write, speak, teach, preach, exhort, think and measure our words, know the words or lack of the words we’re using and begin to rebuild the fallen and tattered rocks of the foundation and restore them strongly in the walls of the foundation of our lives — that foundation being all the words we think, speak, write, or those we don’t.

How about we turn to the Word and learn how important language and words truly are and we cease being so lax, so lazy, so worldly, so trendy, so indistinguishable from the words and ways of the world?

The above is but a short list. A short primer. Lets each of us now build the threads of our language into a pleasing and acceptable unblemished fabric before the Lord.

Knowing that we’re going to give an accounting for every word, every thought…

Knowing I have a lot to ask forgiveness for due to my words and thoughts. Being remiss. Allowing worldly influence and laziness to touch my tongue and mind.

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

1 Peter 5:8 — English Standard Version

It may not be easy or something we want to do but we each need to be ever mindful, more mindful of our every word used. Are we pleasing to the world and indistinguishable from them in our speech, our manner, our writing, and ways? Or are we separate and living to be pleasing and acceptable unto the Lord? A man, a woman that by our words make the heart of God glad!
