Israel’s Defense Minister warned Assad’s regime against any future use of its air defense system against the State of Israel on Sunday, vowing to destroy its systems if Israel is targeted.

In a radio interview Sunday, Lieberman clarified that Israel has no desire to interfere in Syria’s civil war and operations carried out by the IDF have been to thwart the transfer of weapons from Syria to Hezbollah.

He warned the Syrian army of any future aggression against the Jewish state, stating “The next time the Syrians use their air defense systems against our planes we will destroy them without the slightest hesitation. We have no interest in interfering in the Syrian civil war, not for nor against Assad, and we have no interest in clashing with the Russians.”

He made very clear that Israel’s “main problem is with the transfer of advanced weapons from Syria to Lebanon. That is why every time we identify an attempt to smuggle game-changing weapons, we will act to thwart it. There will be no compromise on this issue. If the IDF does choose to act, there is a real reason for it.”

His remarks come after the Israeli Ambassador to Russia, Gary Koren, was summoned by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov Friday after Israel carried out airstrikes in Syria followed by Syria launching anti-craft missiles into Israeli territory.

Israelis in the Jordan Valley reported several blasts early Friday morning, followed by the Syrian army launching anti-aircraft rockets. In a rare occurrence, Israel’s government officials and the IDF publicly addressed the incident.

The IDF’s Arrow missile defense system was able to down of one of the rockets fired, the Syrian army claiming that it downed one of Israel’s jets and scared the others away, the IDF publicly refuting the reports.

Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed the incidents, stating that Israel’s “policy is very consistent: when we identify attempts to transfer advanced weapons to Hezbollah, and we have the intelligence and operational feasibility – we work to prevent this. That’s how it’s been and that’s how it will be, we have determination, and the proof is that we are acting, and everyone has to take this into account.”
