I Was Dead Before I Died

by Ken Pullen

Scripture appears in Italics & is from the King James Version

copyright 2016 — but feel free to pass this along if so inclined

Look at them moving all about

running

biking

jumping

to an fro they all

go

go

go

 trains, planes, automobiles

anyone sayin’

most of them are dead

would come under doubt

So busy always movin’

like the toothless sharks they are

in the car

at the bar

thinkin’ they are some big star

in my finite mind

thinkin’

my kind

must look like some lit up

mostly evil

ant farm

to God our Father

Jesus Christ the Lord

Took me almost

55

odd years

(believe me they were odd)

before

I

realized

eyes

no longer closed, dead

opened

to the Truth

I was dead before I died

There I go

lyin’ again

another sin

let me be clear

nothing but honest

truth from this point on

I knew

always knew

deep

deep

sometimes making it’s way surface bound

comin’ around

only to be pushed

fought back

spiritual attack

always

always knew (know do they)

dead before they die

to sin

World chock full of liars

deniers

speaking the words of their master Satan criers

yet

to a one

they all know

know

believe me

they

know

the Son

of God is the power, the glory, the only One

no matter what their lips may say

their eyes dead to such Truth

in some still alive cell of their dark dead hearts

they all know

Jesus is Lord

Son of God

since they like to use His name in vain

every chance they get

can’t find their keys?

Jesus Christ

stub a toe

Jesus Christ

yet if a true believer walks

up

talks to them

all they do is deny

deny

deny

muttering to themselves

so they think

as you walk away…

Jesus Christ

I was dead before I died

this is what the inerrant

living

active

Word of God said

and

I knew it

yes, I knew it

I was blowin’ it

throwin’ the very best, only thing that truly matters away

every day

I walked, talked, worked, lived (I thought)

dead

before

I

died

that’s what the Good Book

only truthful Book

said

According to Scripture,

death

is not

really normal or natural even though it is a persistent fact of human history

Why?

Because

man was created by God

to be a unity of body,

soul,

and spirit

in that state

to live forever with God in fellowship with Him

This

is the natural,

normal state

that God planned for man

This

is why

we have the hope

promise of the resurrection

For we know

that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved,

we have a building of God,

an house not made with hands,

eternal in the heavens.

For

in this we groan,

earnestly

desiring to be clothed upon with our house which is from heaven:

If so

be that being clothed

we shall not be found naked.

For we that are in this tabernacle do groan, being burdened:

not for that we would be unclothed,

but clothed upon,

that mortality might be swallowed up of life.

Now

He that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God,

who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit.

Therefore

we are always confident,

knowing that,

whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord:

(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

We are confident,

I say,

and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent,

we may be accepted of him.

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ;

that every one may receive the things done in his body,

according to that he hath done,

]whether it be good

or bad.

I was dead before I died

through death came alive

first time in 55 odd years

or so

living finally

thanks to God coming to me

letting me know

choosing me

from among the dead mass

of the electric human ant farm

I was dead before I died

now

dead in Him

alive for the first time

before I to my spirit

soul

committed

eternal harm

For the Lord Himself

shall descend

from heaven with a shout,

with the voice of the archangel,

and with the trump of God:

and the dead in Christ

shall rise first:

Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

What shall we say then?

Shall we continue in sin,

that grace may abound?

God forbid.

How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

Know ye not,

that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ

were baptized into his death?

Therefore

we are buried with him by baptism into death:

that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father,

even so

we also should walk in newness of life.

For if we have been planted together

in the likeness of his death,

we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

Knowing this,

that our old man is crucified with him,

that the body of sin might be destroyed,

that henceforth

we should not serve sin.

For he that is dead is freed from sin.

Now

if we be dead with Christ,

we believe that we shall also live with him:

Knowing

that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more;

death hath no more dominion over him.

For in that he died,

he died unto sin once:

but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

Likewise

reckon ye

also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin,

but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

Neither

yield ye your members as instruments

of unrighteousness unto sin:

but yield yourselves

unto God,

as those that are alive from the dead,

and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

For sin shall not have dominion over you:

for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

What then?

shall we sin,

because we are not under the law,

but under grace?

God forbid.

Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey,

his servants ye are to whom ye obey;

whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

But God be thanked,

that ye were the servants of sin,

but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

Being then made free from sin,

ye became the servants of righteousness.

For whatsoever things were written aforetime

were written for our learning,

that we through patience

and comfort of the scriptures

might have hope.

But now is Christ risen from the dead,

and become the firstfruits

of them that slept.

For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

For as in Adam all die,

even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

But every man in his own order:

Christ the firstfruits;

afterward

they

that are Christ’s at his coming.

Singular here not plural

so

so

so important to the living

claiming death to sin by the shed blood of the One

the Son

Jesus Christ the risen Lord!

Then cometh the end,

when He

shall have delivered up the kingdom to God,

even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

For

He must reign,

till he hath put all enemies under his feet.

The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

I was dead before I died

now

alive

livin’

to be found

pleasing

acceptable

unto the Lord

For our conversation is in heaven;

from whence

also

we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:

Who shall change our vile body,

that

it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body,

according to the working whereby

He is able even to subdue all things unto Himself.

Blessed be

the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

which according to His abundant mercy

hath begotten us again

unto a lively hope

by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

To an inheritance incorruptible,

and undefiled,

and that fadeth not away,

reserved in heaven for you,

Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation

ready

to be revealed in the last time.

Wherein ye greatly rejoice,

though now for a season,

if need be,

ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:

That the trial of your faith,

being much more precious than of gold that perisheth,

though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour

and glory

at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

Whom

having not seen,

ye love;

in whom,

though now ye see him not,

yet believing,

ye rejoice

with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

Let not your heart be troubled:

ye believe in God,

believe also in me.

In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so,

I would have told you.

I go

to prepare a place for you.

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again,

and receive you

unto myself;

that where I am,

there ye may be also.

And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

I was dead before I died

now

renewed of mind and spirit

Holy Spirit

indwelling

now so alive

finally LIVING

risen with Him

living

to be

pleasing

acceptable

unto our Lord!
