The Angel and the Small Scroll
And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire: And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth, And cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth: and when he had cried, seven thunders uttered their voices. And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not. And the angel which I saw stand upon the sea and upon the earth lifted up his hand to heaven, And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer: But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.
And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth. And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey. And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter. And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.
Revelation 10 — King James Version
And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, “Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not.”
Revelation 10:4 — King James Version
A true sign of the times and whether a thing is true or not pertaining to God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit lies in being true to the Word of God. Obedience to the Lord our God.
Here the Apostle John sees and hears things no man ever heard or saw. Jesus Himself has revealed Himself to John and is showing him world history unfolding to the very end, and many things of heaven.
And when the Apostle John hears what had to be fantastic things uttered by the seven thunders and he is about to write down what he has heard, the voice from heaven, the voice of Jesus, or even God Himself says to the apostle, “Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not.”
What does the Apostle John do? Does he contact the National Enquirer? Entertainment Tonight? The local news? NBC, CNN, Fox News? Does he obey or disobey?
And let’s be very clear here — other than witnessing the daily life of Jesus Christ, God come to earth as man, and Jesus teaching, being crucified and then resurrecting from the dead and appearing to the disciples and apostles for 40 days before ascending to the right hand of God — this revelation on the Isle of Patmos is the most dramatic, historical, important and spiritual matter, other than our Lord appearing to Saul on the road to Damascus. Some would argue the seven plagues, the parting of the Red Sea, the great flood, or other events God allowed or wrought on earth are comparable, but I contend when it comes to things on earth or things of heaven? The things of heaven prevail. The matters of heavenly things, of prophecy, of Revelation, and the end of human history as it has been lived daily since Genesis is the biggest thing to ever happen — other than salvation and eternal life for those who believe and obey the Lord Jesus Christ.
I am not here to debate what rates greater, things such as Enoch and Elijah never tasting human death and being carried up into heaven, or this or that miracle or event. I was lead to focus on Revelation 10 for some reason and that is what needs be now.
A lot of folks will disagree with my commentary, as I take everything at first literally and then pray upon each matter and ask the Lord to help me discern wisely. As example, Revelation is not fantasy, allegory, or mere symbolism. I believe everything — every single event, deed, action, word, and act were and are real. More real in fact than this temporal current condition of earth, and each of us, which will be, or are. We each will die and begin to turn to dust again, unless we are of an age and of faith and righteousness to endure the coming Great Tribulation and upon the return of our Lord Jesus Christ (see Revelation 19).
I believe there was a literal little scroll, or book if you will, and that John did “eat it and taste the sweetness of honey in his mouth, and the bitterness in his stomach.” This act means something. The little book, or the scroll the mighty angel with his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot upon the earth holding the book. The direct giving of Divine Revelation, from Jesus Christ, to the Apostle John. The Apostle John hearing seven utterances, seven decrees or statements from this mighty angel, and as John is about to write down what he hears he is told to; “Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not.”
And the apostle obey the Lord
This is for our use. For our instruction.
Why do we neglect it so?
Why do we live as if it is beyond our comprehension? In so doing we diminish and deny the power of the Spirit of God.
Revelation was not given as filler, without reason, or to not be understood, to not be discerned, to not be heeded!
Arise from your slumber! Oh rutted and lost man and woman professing to be one of His, wallowing in the sameness, the lameness of what passes for Christian worship in these last of the last days!
Arise and prepare!
Arise and bow down in humble prayer!
Arise and place our thoughts on heavenly matters, the astounding and magnificent wonder, the awe of the things of God and His infinite power. We are not John, we are not apostles, but as true disciples of Jesus Christ the Lord, and as children of God we need to hear the trumpets sound, we need to hear the thunder clap, we need to know when the lightening flashes and strikes!
We need to tune out this world more and the clatter of its chaotic voices — and we need to hone in on the voice of God. Which comes through to us in His word. In prayer — if we would only listen, obey, and live accordingly!
The mystery of God revealed. Measured out to each of us as ought to be. Enough to understand and believe and have enough faith, even as a grain of mustard [See Matthew 17:20] and [ Luke 17:6 ], to carry us, to move us to live a life for the Lord.
Speak of moving mountains! The faith as a mustard seed can move one through life and to heaven for eternity!
Yet let our seed germinate, take root, and grow. To bear fruit. To serve and honor the Lord our God.
I have had conversations with a few people from various denominations. They have said to my face, and my ears have clearly heard them utter, “Our pastor (minister, reverend) said to not read Revelation. It is to confusing and we will never understand it. It is only for Biblical scholars.”
Heaven forbid! Are these the wolves in sheep’s clothing we are warned of [ See Matthew 7:15 ]? Are these the ministers of Satan appearing as of light to [ See 2 Corinthians 11: 14-15 ] masquerade as minsters of righteousness!?
All of Scripture — EVERY WORD — is given by God our Father, God the Creator, for EVERY PERSON [ See 2 Timothy 3:16 ]. Every person has access to, or will have access to the inerrant word of God — the Holy Bible.
Do not ignore it. Do not abuse it. Do not corrupt or pervert it with unsound doctrine. Do not mock it. Do not alter it.
If one in faith, prayerful, humble, sincere ASKS God our Father to measure out His Holy Spirit upon them for understanding of His word He will do so. If the person has a humble heart and a truly seeking spirit and soul for the truth.
The Apostle John, on the Isle of Patmos, heard and saw everything in the Book of Revelation. And in that book is also written;
For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
Revelation 22:18-20 — King James Version
Revelation can be understood and made clear as crystal made by the hand of God — and that in Revelation can be made clear and understood, measured out as the Lord measures, to all who truly seek to understand Him, serve Him, obey Him — as the Apostle John did.
Ask this of yourself and answer to yourself and the Lord, “If it were me in John’s place what would I have done? Is my faith and love of the Lord such I would obey His commandments? Or would I have run and posted on Facebook, what I heard the angel utter in the seven thunders? Would I obey and believe? Or would I try to profit in a worldly manner from the experience and disobey God?”
There is more to the Holy Bible than Psalm 23 and John 3:16.
Time to go from milk to meat. Time to not limit the power of the Spirit of God in what He can and will discern unto you from His word. Time to prepare to witness what was uttered by the angel regarding the seven thunders, time to live in the unveiling of the mystery of God!
Time to stand in the full armor of God and boldly approach the throne of God!
