Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2: 15

We live in the age of Relativism. “Whatever you believe is fine, whatever you believe is your truth, whatever, man.”

A gentleman sent a comment to the first installment in this series “Truth Is Not Relative” and he mentioned the worlds mindset, our being carnal and relying upon carnal interpretations causing error and how the only way to comprehend the truth of God and Scripture is via the Holy Spirit. He said “Without the Spirit of God we are helpess and void of complete truth.”

This is a truth.

Carnality has consumed not only unbelievers but vast numbers professing belief in God and Jesus Christ. Too many rely upon the philosophy of the world and their carnal minds and do not place complete, absolute trust in the Spirit of God to work within them. To instruct them. It is a ‘I want to have my cake and eat it too’ mindset. Too many people want to proclaim belief and say they are Christian but they place their trust in worldly wisdom and the ways of men and women over the ways and Word of God.

The apostle Paul in his second letter to his helper and fellow servant of the Lord’s instructs Timothy through the Holy Spirit working in the apostle Paul “study to show yourself approved to God.” Too many go about thinking and saying, “I said I believe in Jesus Christ and accept Him as my personal Saviour and I’m saved! The Bible tells me so!”

And they like to make one verse their complete Word of God. They like to only go to the ‘oh I like and agree with this’ passages and do not STUDY TO SHOW THEMSELVES APPROVED TO God. Too few study, read, and know the Scriptures. The instruction of the Lord to us. The will of God everyone speaks of as they ignore the Bible and do their will all the while the will of God in our lives for every single day past, present, and future for how many ever days we are blessed with is right there. God’s will is the Bible.

Too many denominations have dominated and usurped the authority and instruction of the Word of God. This happens as professed believers turn less to and rarely open and read the Bible. How can one exist in a nourished spiritual life and grow spiritually if they refuse to take the nourishment which provides their growth? And the ONLY source of nourishment for ANYONE professing belief in God and Jesus Christ is the Word of God. If anyone eats of worldly food to nourish and sustain their fleshly body and they do so regularly why is it they continually fail to take the necessary spiritual nourishment which, in truth, is more vital to their life than is earthly food?

The body is temporary and will rot, be consumed, and turned to dust.

The spirit and soul continue on. Either malnourished and sustained on lies and the rancid morsels consumed of this world, or nourished and made to grow on the fat and meat of the Word of God, the sincere milk of the Word of God!

Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill? He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart.

Psalm 15: 1,2

For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

1 Thessalonians 2: 13

I hesitate and find troubling reading, writing, speaking, or only discussing one verse taken from the pages of the Holy Bible. I do nothing out of context in my study and in most of what I write here on “A Crooked Path.” I do hope and pray in this case, in this series where I am using mostly individual verses about truth that you will take the time to read and contemplate that which comes before, and that which follows each of these verses. And you consider the time, the place, the who, and the why.

This is how discernment comes. Through faith in the Holy Spirit and His guiding and instructing us to understand all that we need to understand.

We can only understand – discern the truth of the Word of God if we sit at the table of the Word of God and eat it. If we ingest it daily. If we nourish our hearts, our minds, our spirits, and our souls on the truth, wisdom, and instruction of the COMPLETE Word of God. Not just the go-to security blanket type of passage. We refuse the truth of Scripture while professing with our lips we are disciples of Christ the Lord.

We cannot be disciples of Christ the Lord unless we follow Him completely. Seek after Him. Go along with Him. Not just wave as He passes by. Not just drop by a so-called Christian church on a Sunday morning, be entertained with the light shows, the big productions, the rock bands, the hoopla and the glitz and show get a gold attendance star and jump back into the shiny car and live in the world, selfish, worldly, appearing no different than any unbeliever, never reading the Word of God, not praying in humble earnestness unto the Lord our God, and call ourselves His disciples.

We are instructed throughout the Newer Testament to abandon self an serve others. That is living a Christ-like life. To think of others more highly than we do ourselves. To serve. To not seek gain. To not worry about where we are to lay our heads or where our next meal comes from – to have absolute faith in the Lord our God to provide all our needs.

How many follow and live this truth of Scripture and the faith?

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2: 15).

Rightly dividing the word of truth.

Discerning the Word of God.

Understanding the Bible.

It isn’t difficult. It isn’t impossible. It isn’t shrouded in mystery and unfathomable. It isn’t only for scholars or for the highly intelligent.

Study the Word of God to show yourself approved to God. A person who need not ever be ashamed due to their work to discern correctly the Word of God which is the only truth.

Yet how many do this?

The gentleman who commented on the first installment of “Truth Is Not Relative” also said “We digest small parts and add that too our carnal mindset and have something that is 50-50 or 75-25 truth and error. Putting the Scriptures out and saying that’s the truth is true in a sense. The problem arises when people try to explain what it says and means.”

The above happens and is true because people want to place their worldly view onto what the Word of God instructs along with their lack of study and knowledge in the Word of God as they refuse to rely upon the Holy Spirit to provide them understanding. No one can add their carnal mindset – the world view, the philosophy of this world to the Bible and then expect honest interpretation of the Word of God.

God is Spirit. His Word pertains to our spiritual lives. Yet too many think they can go into the Bible, if they venture into its contents at all, and apply their worldly wisdom and come out informed and enlightened and understanding the Word of God.

This is akin to a blind man venturing onto a racetrack and getting into a race car while he’s never driven before in his life, and has no conception of the course, yet expects to win the race.

People reject the truth. Even professed believers in these times of great apostasy and false teaching refuse the truth and prefer to mingle worldly desire, likes, understanding, and wisdom, worldly beliefs and practices with their professed faith and call themselves Christians in good steed, in good standing and think themselves workmen approved before the Lord our God. Yet how wrong they are in their presumptions!

Here are truths at least nine out of ten people, actually more like 99,999 out of 100,000 refuse and won’t stomach. But the truth is not dependent on what we can and cannot stomach:
The Christmas Story – Part 1

The Christmas Story – Part 2

The Christmas Story – Part 3

The coming antichrist and his deceitful works.

Now we beseech you, brethren, by thecoming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

2 Thessalonians 2: 1-12

Seek the truth of God through the Word of God. Not through any denomination, any man, any woman, any thing. Seek the only truth there is which exists which can only come through the working of the Holy Spirit in the heart, mind, spirit, and soul of those who come seeking the truth of the Scriptures. Without perversion of God’s Word. Without corrupting of God’s Word through worldly carnal interpretations to appease men and women rather than serve the Lord our God in His truth, His instruction, His ways, His will – which is revealed always and simply by opening, reading, praying upon, studying, and knowing the living inerrant Word of God.

I am not going to delve into the ideology and philosophy of Relativism which has overshadowed the entire world. Much can be gleaned on this topic by doing a search here on “A Crooked Path.” In the almost 900 posts on this site many pertain or mention, or show an example of Relativism and this cancerous choking of the truth deadly philosophy gripping the majority.
